Auguste Lehe - U.S.S. Minnesota
Auguste Joseph Lehe was born on
August 8, 1890 in New York City, the
son of Jean Baptiste Lehe and Augustine
Eugenie Pruneau. He served in the
United States Navy on board many
ships, his first was the U.S.S. Minnesota.
Before WWI, he met his future wife,
Margaret O'Donnell Bonner at
Franklin Square Park while in port at
Philadelphia. They instantly fell in love
and while she was only 16 and
forbidden to him, she decided to run
away from home. She lied about her
age of 18 and was only 17 when she
married at Wilmington, Delaware. They
had 13 children and lived most of their
lives in Hudson County, New Jersey. He
helped build the many Bridges and
Tunnels of New York City and New
Jersey. He died February 2, 1943 at the
young age of 52 and broke all the hearts
of his family.
